Leroy Williams
Mr. Leroy Williams is the founder and president of the Pensacola Community Arts and Recreation Association (PCARA), a grass-root, non-profit community-based association dedicated to the prevention of drug abuse, violence, premarital sex and teen suicide among the youth throughout the community.
ABOUT THE PRESIDENT
Mr. Leroy Williams is the founder and president of the Pensacola Community Arts and Recreation Association (PCARA), a grass-roots, non-profit community-based association dedicated to the prevention of drug abuse, violence, premarital sex, and teen suicide among the youth throughout the community. PCARA has been in existence since June of 1987. PCARA offers youth and adult mentorship, tutoring, acting, singing, and dancing lessons. PCARA presents workshops, brings in speakers, and holds "rap sessions" that address illegal drug use, teen pregnancy, and violence prevention. PCARA is celebrating over 35 years of giving back to its community.
Mr. Williams is a National Award-Winning gospel playwright, producer, and director. He has written, produced, directed, and acted in thirty-eight theatrical productions. His work includes such hits as:

In addition to writing, producing, and directing various plays, he has also performed in the following theatrical productions: "THAT MAN OF MINE," "FLIGHT OF THE NATIVE," "THE BIG CHURCH MEETING," "THE IDLE HEAD," "FENCES," "THE BLACK CYCLE," "RAISIN IN THE SUN," "A SUNDAY MORNING IN THE SOUTH" and the above-mentioned productions. Most of the productions presented by PCARA have been sellouts. His latest production, “Hold Me Up Holy Ghost Flight 747,” was held in Pensacola, Florida, on February 18, 2022.
Mr. Williams has received rave reviews from the media, newspapers and even special recognition from former President Bill Clinton. His works emphasize the importance of God first, followed by family, young people, and community. Mr. Williams has written another new gospel comedy stage-play, “Fentanyl Ain't Got Nothing On The Word Of God.” The new production will take place on February 17, 2024.
Mr. Williams plans, organizes, and hosts a yearly Youth Extravaganza. The extravaganza showcases talented youth throughout Pensacola and the surrounding communities. Each year, over 200 youth participate.
Mr. Williams plans, organizes, and hosts a yearly “Community Networking and Getting Involved Funfest." The Funfest consisted of workshops, recreational activities, free lunches, and awards for their participation.
Mr. Williams also plans and organizes an annual non-violence day entitled "The Big Community Cookout," United Together For Non-Violence and A Drug-Free Community. The cookout consisted of speeches by local leaders, entertainment, and free food. Each year, over 2,500 people attend this event.
Funding for the many programs PCARA offers is a significant undertaking, and he spends many hours rehearsing professional actors and actresses for performances of theatrical productions he writes, produces, directs, and promotes to keep their program afloat.
Mr. Williams spends many hours counseling incarcerated youth and adults.
Mr. Williams is employed as a Community Center Coordinator with the Escambia County Neighborhood and Human Service Department.
Mr. Williams has received numerous awards for his community service, including the Escambia County Employee of the Year award in 2015. Mr. Williams's hours devoted to helping the less fortunate are genuinely remarkable. The fact that he is a full-time employee and the Ambassador for the Pensacola Blue Wahoos Double “A” Base team has a family, and is a dedicated member of Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church makes it even more remarkable.
Mr. Williams consistently provides a quality of service unsurpassed in his dedication to aiding and encouraging youth's safe and complete development, believing that giving oneself to others will advance the well-being of man, our community, and the world.
